Trevett Cristo, P.C., a Rochester-based general practice law firm now in its 100th year, is pleased to announce that Brian Shiffrin has joined the firm as Partner.

“Brian brings an exceptional depth of appellate experience to Trevett Cristo,” said Lou Cristo, President of Trevett Cristo. “His knowledge, dedication to his clients and longstanding involvement in the Rochester legal community make him a strong addition to our team. We’re very pleased to have him join the firm.”

Over a career spanning more than three decades, Shiffrin has handled thousands of criminal appeals and argued at every level of appellate court, including the United States Supreme Court. He previously served as First Assistant Monroe County Public Defender, where he led the Appeals Bureau, and later as a partner at another Rochester law firm. His appellate and other post-conviction work has resulted in numerous reversals and modifications of convictions and sentences.

Shiffrin has also held several leadership roles in the Rochester legal community, including President of the Rochester Chapter of the American Inns of Court and Trustee of the Monroe County Bar Association. He co-authored the chapter “Appeals in Criminal Cases” in the New York State Bar Association’s Criminal Practice Handbook and has taught courses at Rochester Institute of Technology. His professional honors include Best Lawyers’ 2021 Rochester-area Criminal Defense: General Practice “Lawyer of the Year.”

“Joining Trevett Cristo gives me the opportunity to offer my clients access to an even broader range of legal services and support,” said Shiffrin. “The firm has a talented team of attorneys and, just as importantly, good people. I’m excited to be part of that team and continuing to serve my clients with the resources of the firm behind me.”
